reiki in andersonville with natural elements to bring stress relief and deep relaxation

I’ve got exciting news: Healing Roots now has a new Saturday home in the heart of my favorite Chicago neighborhood — Andersonville. The space feels like a deep exhale.

Nestled within the beautiful healing practice of Moira Scullion Healing, this new location carries the kind of grounded, calming energy you can feel the moment you walk through the door. It’s warm. Gentle. Unhurried. The kind of space where your nervous system immediately realizes: oh… I’m safe here.

I’m also grateful to be integrating additional healing tools into sessions — including tuning forks, sound frequencies, crystals, meditation, and nature-based grounding practices — alongside the Reiki work I already offer through Healing Roots Holistic Therapies. Most importantly, I’m excited to continue offering what I believe so many people are deeply craving right now:

Trauma-informed Reiki in Andersonville that honors the whole person — body, mind, spirit, identity, story, and nervous system.

Why Trauma-Informed Reiki Matters

Many people come to Reiki not because they’re trying to “fix” themselves, but because they’re exhausted from surviving.

Trauma can impact the body in profound ways:

  • Chronic anxiety and hypervigilance

  • Burnout and emotional numbness

  • Difficulty resting or sleeping

  • Chronic tension and pain

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself or your body

Sometimes trauma is connected to a specific event. Sometimes it’s years of stress, caregiving, masking, discrimination, grief, religious harm, relationship wounds, or simply never feeling fully safe to be yourself.

A trauma-informed Reiki approach recognizes this. It understands that healing doesn’t happen through force or performance. Healing happens through safety, consent, compassion, pacing, and nervous system regulation.

What Trauma-Informed Reiki in Andersonville Looks Like

If you’ve never experienced Reiki before, you may be surprised by how gentle it is.

Sessions with me are intentionally slow, collaborative, and grounded. There is no pressure to share your story, explain your pain, or “do healing correctly.” Instead, we focus on creating conditions where your body can soften enough to begin healing naturally.

Imagine:

  • Soft lighting and calming sounds

  • A cozy treatment table with blankets and support

  • Gentle Reiki energy through light touch or hands hovering above the body

  • Space to breathe without expectation

You remain fully empowered throughout the session. Consent, comfort, and choice are central to the experience. Because trauma-informed care means recognizing that safety is not assumed — it is actively created together.

Reiki and the Nervous System: Why Deep Relaxation Matters

Many of us are functioning in a constant low-grade survival state. Always “on.” Always bracing. Always carrying more than our bodies were meant to hold.

Reiki supports activation of the parasympathetic nervous system — the state associated with rest, repair, digestion, and healing. In this deeply restorative state:

  • Cortisol levels decrease

  • Muscles release tension

  • Heart rate slows

  • Emotional regulation improves

  • The body begins shifting out of fight-or-flight mode

This isn’t “just relaxing.” It’s nervous system healing. And for many people navigating trauma, stress, anxiety, burnout, or emotional overwhelm, learning how to feel safe enough to rest can itself be transformative.

A Healing Space Where You Can Bring Your Whole Self

One of the most important parts of trauma-informed care is this: You do not have to become someone else to deserve healing. In every session, you are welcome exactly as you are. Your identity, your lived experience, your spirituality (or lack thereof), your emotions, your tenderness, your exhaustion — all of you is welcome here.

I strive to create an affirming healing space for people of all:

  • Races and cultural backgrounds

  • Gender identities and expressions

  • Sexual orientations

  • Faith traditions and belief systems

You do not need to shrink yourself, mask your pain, or perform here. You get to simply be.

Come As You Are

You do not have to hold everything together here, earn rest, or explain why you’re tired.

Sometimes healing begins with something incredibly simple: a quiet room, a supported body, and the experience of being cared for without judgment.

Come. Be. Rest. Heal.
